Genesis 4:1 – 5:32

  • At the end of each day of creation God assesses His creation and then makes an evaluative comment. He continues to do so with
    Adam’s children. How does God respond to the brothers’ offerings? How do Cain and Abel’s offerings differ? (see Matthew 23:34-35; Hebrews 11:4, 12:24)
  • How does God confront Cain? What does this tell you about God’s goal in confrontation? (Proverbs 28:13)
  • Read 1 John 3:12 and Jude 11 for New Testament commentary regarding Cain. What do these Scriptures tell you about Cain? About the Serpent?
  • Make two columns and make a list of the differences between the lineages of Cain and Seth.
  • From 5:1-3 describe the difference between Adam and Eve and their son, Seth.
  • How had God described the reproduction process in Genesis one? What does this tell you about Seth, Cain, and post-Fall people?
  • What was God’s goal for people in Genesis 1:28? How is the world described in Noah’s day in chapter 6:11-13?
  • What happens when Seth’s sons began intermarrying with Cain’s daughters?
  • When you read of Nephilim think of men of wicked heroic proportion (the Hitler’s of this world). Think also about the number of years men lived upon the earth and extent of a wicked man’s reach.
  • Read Hebrews 11:5-7. How does Noah respond to God’s overture? What does God look for from His people? What is the ONE THING that pleases God? What does “faith” look like in people’s lives?

Genesis 1:1 – 3:24

What do you learn about God from….

  • God’s creating plant and animal life with the ability to reproduce?
  • the days of creation? (God is systematic…is interested in reproduction, etc.)
  • God’s garden prohibition?

How does Adam realize that he has no one comparable to himself?

What does God’s making Eve from Adam’s rib instead of forming her from the dust of the ground tell you about God? About woman?

Describe the serpent’s conversation with the woman.

What happens immediately after Adam and Eve eat the forbidden fruit?

What does this tell you about sin?

What are fear, shame, and guilt symptoms of?

How does God respond to their sin?

What was God’s goal in confronting Adam and Eve?

How do guilty sinners typically respond to sin’s confrontation? (see Proverbs 28:13 for an example)

How does God demonstrate His love and mercy to the guilty couple?

What does Adam and Eve’s sin cost them? Cost God? Cost creation?

Revelation 19:1 – 22:21

  • What event causes such an uproar in heaven?
  • What three names are written on the rider who is called Faithful and True?
  • What prohibits Satan from his continual deceptions?
  • What is the purpose of the thousand year period and what takes place at its end?
  • How will sinners be judged?
  • What is predominant in New Jerusalem?
  • What will be noticeably absent in New Jerusalem?
  • Compare Genesis 1-3 with Revelation 21-22

Heavens and hearth created (1:1) – New heavens and earth appear (21:1)

Sun created (1:16) – no need of the sun (21:23)

The night established (1:5) – No night there (22:5)

The seas created (1:10) – No more seas (21:1)

The curse announced (3:14-17) – No more curse (22:3)

Death enters History (3:19) – No more death (21:4)

Man driven from the tree and the garden (3:24) – Man restored to paradise (22:14)

Sorrow and pain begin (3:17) – No more tears or pain (21:4)

PRAYER: Ask the Lord to correct your vision, to allow you to realize the eternal in the temporal.
