  1. I think I discovered an answer to something I have often wondered about. How did people way back – like Adam’s descendants, Noah, Job – know what God wanted? The genealogies draw a direct line from Adam, who knew God personally, to his sons, but so quickly the people become corrupt.
How do those righteous ones come about?
The human/earth story in Gen. 1-9 covers so much time but then some small details are recorded.
Genesis 4:26, “At that time men began to call on the name of the LORD.”
Genesis 6:3, “The LORD said, “My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years.” Several alternate translations say that God’s Spirit will not ‘remain’ or ‘abide’ with man forever.
Now in this statement from God, about God, too often we go to the understandable part of the limitation on human lifespan, but what is really incredible is to realize that God’s Spirit was working in men to disclose what is acceptable to God. The Spirit didn’t appear at Pentecost but has been revealing God all along!
